Don't Be Fooled By Nuts and Berries

A number of years ago I received a call from my worried mother who thought I might be out of a job. She had heard that a new book was released that was going to change my career. The book was The Arthritis Cure. It was the medical miracle that can halt, reverse, and may even cure arthritis. That was 1997 and like many other myths and false promises, the Arthritis Cure remains to be discovered. I remain in my profession with experience of 35 years treating individuals with arthritis, continuously trying to decrease their pain and suffering to the lowest levels possible.

I am aware that what we eat and other factors in our environment have a definite effect on our health, including our musculoskeletal system. Eating a well-balanced diet of protein, fat and carbohydrate is nutritious. There are foods that have anti-inflammatory properties that can help decrease the effect of our body's inflammatory process. Foods like ginger and turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties and are mainstays of Indian ayurvedic medicine. Also, omega 3 fatty acids from fish have also been recommended as major therapy for inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. However, the number of capsules needed to be effective number 15 to 16 a day. The potential effects from this amount of fish oils include calories, malabsorption, and diarrhea.

There are over 100 different types of arthritis. There is no one cure for all of them. Anyone claiming to have a cure for arthritis needs to say which one they are curing or are they curing them all. No matter how many times they are on TV or no matter how many books they sell, they have no nut or berry that will relieve the suffering associated with arthritis. Finding a cure will not be simple. What is important is finding ways to prevent arthritis.
